The US State Department said that the United States condemns the “horrific terrorist attack” that occurred during a Catholic Mass at a university in the southern Philippines and led to the deaths of at least four people and the injury of dozens.
The ministry added in a statement that the United States is in close contact with its partners in the Philippines and stands by them in rejecting acts of violence.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and security officials said the crime was committed by "foreign terrorists.”
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack that occurred in a university gymnasium in the southern city of Marawi, which was besieged by militant militants for five months in 2017.
